Denham Lake

Where I plan to do some fishing this week; situated in the Colne Valley, this was a quarry now flooded and taken back by nature. It is very deep in parts and quite tough to locate the fish, but it holds some very big carp!

Jolie vue sur ce plan d'eau. Bonne pêche !
Martin Robbins: Merci Martine smile Je ne suis pas familier avec cette eau, alors ça devrait être une bonne aventure et je pourrais même en attraper une!
It does look like a good fishing spot! I like how the building in the back rises above the trees a bit like a castle (you know we Americans are obsessed with your castles over there! smile )
Martin Robbins: It is also known as the specimen lake, because of the size of the fish.........it is a good spot, but not easy to catch ;-) That structure in the background is part of another quarry, that is active..........I was going to frame it out of the picture, but thought it adds some more interest (as you say like a castle) smile
Not heard of this place, Colne does have some nice surrounding areas.
Martin Robbins: I'm guessing you are thinking of Colne in Lancashire, but this is the Colne Valley, with a river of the same name which is a tributary of the Thames. The area has many lakes, which are manmade, following the abstraction of gravel; fortunately it makes for some great fishing!

Best of luck then Martin
Martin Robbins: Thank you Chris, I'll need all the well wishes to catch here! smile
I can already feel the tug on the line, Martin. smile
Martin Robbins: Ah, thank you Ginnie! It's not easy fishing; it's known as the specimen lake i.e. the fish are big and wily smile

This looks a very nice and quiet place to be and do some serious fishing, Martin. Good luck and I hope that you will show your catch.
Martin Robbins: If I catch, I will definitely post a picture! Thank you Astrid smile
Hopefully your patience will be rewarded by catching one of them
Martin Robbins: It will take a lot of patience..........some people camp out for days fishing here. Thanks Bill smile

Carp are bottom feeders, aren't they? Have to cast with something like porridge bombs, more or less at the same place. That will be building a feeder. Then a cast to rest in that same area. Then take out your hip flask and relax, while enjoying this view.
Martin Robbins: That certainly is a method that I've used successfully! But this time I'm going to try something different (for me): the 'Zig Rig', which can be fished at any level, using a piece of foam as bait.........I know it is strange, but apparently successful........we'll see smile
very nice Martin... i knew that you will be fishing there this week....petersmile
Martin Robbins: Absolutely........if I catch anything, I'll post it here! Thanks Peter smile
A pity about that nasty structure on the left!
Martin Robbins: Hahaha.....the gravel abstraction continues! I thought it added a little interest to an otherwise typical fishing lake......thanks Tom smile
